| I learned a lot from trying to find a second dog as a companion to a shy 5-year-old dog. Wanted to rescue a puppy mill dog, and talked to a VERY helpful volunteer, who said that puppy mill dogs tend to have the same issues of being timid and shy. She suggested a more outgoing female. I adopted a full-grown Maltese mix from a shelter -- she is a happy thing, spins around when she is happy, and has really brought out the best in the first dog, who has learned to be more trusting and outgoing! |

When you have one dog it sometimes gets very mischevious as it goes out trying to stur other dogs in the neighbourhood!
That is why I have 4 dogs, so they don't get into trouble!!!

I had a male black labrador from an 8 week old pup, by the time he was 1 year old he had become a very large male lab with a taste for kitchen furniture.
My wife and I had decided that it may be good to get him a companion as this may calm him down, we went back to the breeder who was looking to rehome a 3 year old lab bitch, we took the second dog on and it certainly worked, not overnight mind you.
Ben is now 2 1/2 years old and although he is still daft as a brush sometimes he is now a much more calm and self assured dog, Brittany who is now a little over 4 always was a very timid loving dog, and the boss of the pair !!
It just goes to show that getting a second dog can help sometimes.
